Assistant Director - CSL, LGBTQA Resource Center

About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director of the LGBTQA+ Resource Center at Northeastern University is one member of a dynamic team of professionals focused on providing holistic support to LGBTQA+ students. The Assistant Director will play an integral role in communication, programs and outreach at the LGBTQA Resource Center. This individual will work directly with programs associated with student life on campus.

The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director and Associate Director to assist in overseeing the successful implementation of departmental operations, aligning the mission of the LGBTQA Resource Center to support and empower LGBTQA+ students, with the strategic planning efforts of Student Affairs and the agenda and initiatives shared by areas within Cultural, Residential, and Spiritual Life.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Recruit, train, manage and supervise student staff.
  • Process contracts for programs and manage the administrative component of program planning.
  • Assess and document programs and services.
  • Oversee the functions of the front office.
  • Mentor and support identity-based affinity groups, including queer students of color, trans and gender nonconforming students, ace/asexual students
  • Develop and implement a strategy for supporting international students who identify as LGBTQA+.
  • Help coordinate major programming initiatives such as ReachOUT, OUTober, Rainbow Graduation and others.
  • Increase support and engagement available digitally and across time zone differences.
  • Facilitate trainings and provide consultations for campus partners seeking to increase LGBTQA+ access to programs and services.
  • Provide one-on-one direct support and mentoring to students and initiate referrals as appropriate.
  • Assist the Director with administrative and other duties as needed
  • Serve on university and department-wide committees.
  • Provide evening and weekend support as needed and required for success.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Master's degree in a related field required with at least 1-3 years of experience working with diverse or marginalized populations or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Deep awareness of social justice issues and best practices, programming, student activism and diversity issues is a must. Knowledge of international LGBTQA climates is preferred.
    • Specific experience in providing direct services to historically underrepresented and LGBTQA+ students in an urban, multicultural, and global environment preferred.
    • This individual must be enthusiastic, forward-thinking, detail-oriented, efficient, creative, able to provide structure and strong leadership, as well as being deeply committed to supporting LGBTQA+ students.
